YAY! Here is some information in our local newspaper about the juried Exhibition I got into. This Wednesday is the art walk and artist reception, I'm excited and maybe Jen and I will get some awards?! At any rate at least I can boost my resume a little.

a few things I have been working on. The red chevy is the one I entered into "something red"

Hurray! I recently entered some pieces into a juried art contest in Salem and got them in!

Artists in Action is a community in Salem who is hosting an event called "something red".

Many downtown stores are offering spaces for these artists and on December 5th there will

be an art walk and reception, for everyone to come and see the artwork.

Works in Progress

Just a few things I'm working on....
stage one

stage two

stage three.....more to come

Recent Work

I call it "Longing for the Road"

A glass image of the ring of kerry in Ireland

A recent commission for my Grandfather

"For sale" is taken from a picture of a car
I found out on a country road

this one is a painting, since I havn't had a chance to work on any glass I thought I would try the same technique with paints.

Moving in

So we finally moved in, check it out.....

The cerimonial first coffee

Jen's work table

View out the window on a rainy day

a new home

Finally after all the waiting wondering and wiling away unproductive hours, we have a studio all our own to create in! I am sharing studio space with fellow Artist Jen Hayes. Of course the first thing we did was check out every inch of space we now rent all whopping 400 sq feet of it.

UPON WALKING IN

FROM ACROSS THE ROOM

THE STOVE

THE BATHROOM at this stage the place was pretty bare, I only had the essentials, easel, paints, and music!

after the storm

While things settled down a bit I worked through the summer at George Fox. The rest of the time I spent hanging out with friends and painting. Here's my fresh supply of canvases, I needed these after using up most of my supply during the show.

After so many late nights we had, the space was pretty quiet during the summer. The afternoon sun lit up the place though, and create a nice atmosphere for me to get away from it all and work.

Glass

What you're looking at here is a piece of glass with which I used frit (crushed up glass that's basically powder). I took the glass and put it on a light box then working from a picture i basically drew the image in the glass with the frit, after that I put it in the kiln to fire for 12 hours. These pictures are of my family.

The artwork

I was really excited about this show, as the idea evolved i was able to incorporate more of my personal affection for antique cars and my love of family history. Much of my childhood was spent ridding in the backseat of one of our family cars, exploring the terrain of the pacific northwest. My parents could never pass up taking the long way home and i think this is where my love of our magnificent landscape comes in. I was surprised and excited to see how much cars really are a part of our history, as americans the represent the expanding of our country, they are a symbol of progress. In going through troves of family pictures i found these same themes popping up and soon my thesis was complete. So a show was born.

The grand Finale

This is it folks, after months of late nighters, gallons of coffee, planning till our heads exploded the Studio Art seniors of Fox succesfully executed a wonderful show, if I dont say so myself.
I had a great little corner in Lindgren Gallery,

THE BIG ONE! what question was I asked the most during the show? "how long did it take you to paint that one?" I figured it took about 48 hours straight maybe, of course I couldn't really get at it that way, usually it was after all my classes and work, during the late hours of the night.

Smallville?

The last few months before the show were spent entirly in brougher or our little studio( which is actually the living room of skyles house) to get the creative juices flowing Jen and I attempted to watch the first three seasons of smallville. Its sad but true :)
In an effort to describe the last few months of creative endeavours for friends, family and others who might be interested I have finally downloaded some great pictures. When I started working on my senior thesis exhibit at fox, there were a few bumps to get over, namely what my whole show was going to be about, I had it in my mind to create some huge grandiose figural sculptures. The funny thing with art is no matter how you try if the idea dosnt work it dosnt work, and its just best to let it be for a while. At least in my experience it just needs to flow. I shy away from saying this because I come from the back ground of "work hard enough and it can be done" but I found out, its more about being true to yourself and staying relaxed. So I combined what I knew and what I loved, and started to paint cars, the rest is history.
One of the bumps

Soon I will get batteries, then I will put them in my camera, then I will take pictures of me painting pictures.....then there will be a tare in the space time continuum, because you can't possibly have a picture of a painter creating a picture can you? no... you can't and this my way of destroying the world....mauahahahahah

In other interesting news

I painted today the above picture today.
The end

Canvases are literally strewn about while the smell of cadmium red and odorless solvent waft through the air. The sun might just grace us with its presence but it hasn't decided yet. It's okay the gray light casting through our many windows will suffice, besides, I'm not painting I am actually going to eat lunch. :)

Will you paint this for me?
